About Us

United Clinical Laboratories (UCL) is a medical laboratory providing routine, emergency and reference laboratory services to Dubuque's major health care providers and people residing within a 50-mile radius.

UCL is recognized both locally and nationally for its commitment to quality and its innovative use of resources and technology. We operate at four sites:Mercy Medical Center - Dubuque, Mercy Medial Center - Dyersville, The Finley Hospital, and Cathedral Square.

UCL is a consolidated laboratory with standardized equipment, procedures, and staff training across four sites. We are able to provide services to a broad base of medical and industrial clients with ever changing needs.

Featured Testing

Alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) Tumor Marker is now performed at the UCL Mercy Dubuque site using the Beckman Access two-site immunoenzymatic “sandwich” assay method. The test method is the same as performed at Mayo, so the reference ranges coincide with the Mayo Assay. Alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) is a glycoprotein that is produced by a variety of tumors. This assay is intended only as an adjunct in the diagnosis and monitoring of Alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) producing tumors. This test is not the correct AFP test for pregnant patients, and is not intended for the detection of neural tube defects.

The Dubuque Dragon Boat festival celebrated its 25th anniversary this year. The festival ran September 7-9, 2012 at Miller Riverview Park on the Mississippi River. United Clinical Laboratories has participated in the Dragon Boat Festival all 25 years. UCL competed in the Adventures B division and took 1st place in that division. Team members came from from both hospital sites and Cathedral Square. Paddling on the dragon boat is a great way to meet UCL employees from other sites, and interact with co-workers outside of the work environment. Posted 10-27-2012
